Indigenous Speaker Series

DSB1 is eager to welcome Sandra Laronde on September 20, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. for the first Indigenous Speaker Series of the 2023-2024 school year.
 
Sandra Laronde, from the Teme-Augama Anishinaabe (People of the Deep Water) in Temagami, is an accomplished arts innovator, multi-disciplinary artist and leader and plays a pivotal role in the ongoing Indigenous cultural resurgence of Canada. Most recently, Sandra received the 2023 Indspire Award for the Arts, the 2021 Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Prize, the 2021 Order of Ontario and the 2020 Celebration of a Cultural Life Award. Recently Sandra published her first novel, She Holds Up the Stars (Annick Press). Sandra is also the founder of Red Sky Performance, an award-winning company that leads in the creation, elevation, and evolution of contemporary Indigenous performance in Canada and worldwide.
